In 2013, Diamond Harbour Womens University was established. On January 28, 2013, it was established by West Bengal Act XXXVII of 2012. It is the first university in this region and was designed to meet the long-standing demand of female students in this region and beyond for more opportunities to achieve self-actualization. Under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act of 1956, the University was granted recognition in 2016.
