Following the order of Gujarat High Court, IIM Ahmedabad has implemented reservation for SC, ST and OBC candidates in the Ph.D Programme. IIM Ahmedabad has described it as a difficult task to implement at present.
The institute says that the number of suitable students for the PhD program is hardly 2 to 3, hence it is very difficult operationally to provide reservation.
However, IIMA has taken a decision to provide reservation. The institute has told the High Court that work is being done on the method of separating reserved seats. An internal committee of faculty members is being constituted at IIM Ahmedabad to work out the methodology for providing reservation. The IIM Ahmedabad affidavit said that keeping in mind the new circumstances and the long-standing practice where an average of 2 to 3 students are admitted to each field of PhD programmes, the committee faces a difficult task. Used to be.
IIM's affidavit filed in the High Court states that the best suitable method is likely to take some time. It is likely to be completed by the year 2025. During the hearing in the High Court on Monday, the lawyer appearing for IIM Ahmedabad informed the bench that after deliberations it has been decided that there is a possibility of its completion by the year 2025. However, no deadline has been officially set by the institute.
However, in view of the decision already taken, it has been said by IIMA that appropriate reservation will also be provided in PhD programs at IIMA, the affidavit said. In the affidavit filed by IIM A in the Ahmedabad High Court, it has been said that the method of providing caste based reservation among PhD students is being worked on, it will take time. In oral submissions before the high court on Monday, IIM's counsel informed the court that the process is "likely to be completed by 2025".
