Candidates who have passed the Master coursework with a cumulative grade point average of at least 55% or an equivalent grade of "B" on the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade on any point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and a successful completion of the M. Phil. shall be eligible to continue their research toward the Ph.D. D. A degree earned through an integrated program at the same institution. Depending on the decision made by the Commission from time to time, candidates from the following groups may be granted an allowance of 5% of their marks—from 55% to 50%—or an equivalent allowance of 5% of their grades—or both.

JS University PhD Admission process

Universities must accept Ph.D. and M. Phil. D. students who qualify for the UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher fellowship holder or have completed the M. Phil program through an Entrance Test that is administered in accordance with periodic notification and may determine separate terms and conditions for the Ph.D. Entrance Test. The Entrance Test for the M. Phil. program could take a similar approach.

JS University PhD Admission Entrance exams

Both the entrance test and the qualifying test will have qualifying marks of 50%. The Entrance Test's syllabus will consist of 50% research methodology and 50% subject-specific material. The Entrance Test will take place at the level m of the individual specified in clause 1.2 at the Centre(s) notified in advance, with any changes to the Centre(s) notified well in advance, and the candidates must present their research interests and areas in front of a properly formed Department Research Committee during an interview or viva-voce that will be conducted by the university.
