The Bachelor of Arts at Afzal-ul-Ulama is an undergraduate Arabic language course. Courses include reading literature in English, translation and communication, classical literature, applied grammar and linguistics. This course is of three years duration but in some institutes like Kannur University there is a study course of five years for Afzal-ul-Ulama. The three-year course follows the choice and credit semester system. Each academic year typically consists of six semesters consisting of two semesters. This course may also be offered by some institutions on a part-time basis. After clearing it, candidates can go for further master's degree programs in various colleges/universities in the country.

- Interested students must have passed Intermediate (10+2) in any discipline from a recognized school board.
- Some institutions require a preliminary exam or a 10+2 exam with Arabic as a second language.
