The underpinning of Sanskrit School was laid during the English system in light of a suggestion by HT James Prinsep and Thomas Babington Macaulay. It was conducted under the direction of John Paskal Larkins Esquire, a scholar of oracular knowledge, laid the college's first foundation stone in 1824, according to Honorable William Pit Amherst. • In the postgraduate/acharya level, applicants must have a minimum of 55% (General Category) and 50% (Reserved Category) marks.

• The candidate will be eligible in accordance with UGC regulations, but an enrolled or registered Ph. D./Vidyavaridhi applicants may not currently be eligible for the UGC-JRF or non-net fellowship or scholarship.
