• An M.Phil is required, along with a master's degree or its equivalent with at least 55% overall marks or its equivalent grade of "B" on the UGC 7-point scale. Graduation or equivalent
• Candidates who have completed university coursework with a cumulative grade point average of at least 55% or its equivalent but for which viva voce approval is pending are eligible.
• According to SMRU's guidelines, the reserved category will receive a relaxation of 5% of marks.

• Candidates who have passed the M.Phil program, as well as those who have passed the UGC-NET (including JRF), UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF), SLET, or GATE, may be exempt from the screening written examination known as "RAT" and will be directly called for an interview by the FRDC.
