With the intention of meeting one aspect of this requirement, the University of Kalyani was established in 1960. Originally a unitary university with faculties for education, agriculture, science, and arts, it now oversees 62 affiliated colleges in the Nadia and Murshidabad districts. The glorious alumni list of the University, which includes prominent scientists, scholars, artists, athletes, and representatives of the people, demonstrates that the University has attracted students from all over the region and beyond since its inception.

In 1975, the Faculty of Agriculture became an independent Agricultural University known as the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya in Mohanpur, Nadia, marking the University's initial split. The initially established faculties of Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology in the Faculty of Science and the faculties of Education, Economics, Physical Education, and Sociology in the Faculty of Arts and Commerce continued to exist after the bifurcation.

  • You can apply if you've passed UGC-NET (JRF), UGC-CSIR-NET (JRF), ICMR (JRF), or ICAR (JRF).
  • Master's Degree with at least 55% in relevant subject or discipline is required.

  • Getting into the D.Sc. program / D.Litt. Participants with a Ph.D. from this or another reputable university are eligible to take the course. For the D.Sc, a candidate with only a Master's degree or an equivalent degree may also be considered or D.Literacy provided that an expert committee has deemed his or her previously published work to be of outstanding merit and equivalent to a Ph.D. thesis.

  • 50 MCQ-type questions will be used in the offline format of the RET. Student eager to apply for a Ph.D separate forms must be completed for each subject in more than one subject.
  • At the time of admission, in-service candidates must present a No Objection Certificate from their employer.
  • The Entrance Test (RET) requires 50% qualifying marks. In the university's entrance exam, candidates from the SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layers) and Differently Abled categories will have their marks reduced by 5%, from 50% to 45%.
