West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences PhD Admission, Eligibility, Fees and Guidelines

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences was established by the West Bengal Legislature in July 1999 under the WBNUJS Act, 1999 (West Bengal Act IX of 1999). In August 2004, the University was given notice in accordance with Clause (f) of Section 2 of the UGC Act of 1956. In July 2005, the Bar Council of India gave the University permanent affiliation.

Classes first began in 2000 at Aranya Bhavan, where the Environment Ministry of the West Bengal Government is located. The first classes of students began living in government apartments. The present-day permanent campus of the university was dedicated on October 28, 2002, by B. N. Kirpal, the Chief Justice of India at the time.

The only three national law schools with the honorable Chief Justice of India as Chancellor are the NUJS in Kolkata, the GNLU, and the NLSIU in Bengaluru. These Indian national law schools gain an aura of exclusivity and rare stature thanks to this arrangement. It should be noted that the Chief Justices of the respective state High Courts serve as Chancellors at all other National Law Schools.

The Chief Justice of India serves as NUJS's Chancellor and Chairman of the General Council, the University's highest policy-making body. The Vice Chancellor of the University is Prof. (Dr.) Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti.

West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria

• The candidate must hold an LL.M or Masters degree with the potential for interdisciplinary study in law from a university recognized by the UGC or an equivalent LL.M. or Masters degree from a foreign university with at least 55% marks or a CGPA of at least CGPA equivalent.
• However, candidates who received their master's degree prior to September 10, 1991 are exempt from this requirement, which is reduced to 50% for those who fall into the following categories: SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) or candidates with disabilities.

Candidates with M.Phil degrees or who have qualified for UGC, SLET, SET, or JRF fellowships The entrance exam is not required for degrees. They must, however, participate in an interview.

Candidates will be chosen for the available seats based on their merit in the Research Proposal, entrance test, and interview, or Research Proposal and interview alone, as appropriate. The interview date will be communicated later.

The Entrance Test will consist of a single 80-mark paper that must be completed in three hours. The following topics should be covered in the paper's syllabus:

You will be invited to an interview in a ratio of one to three based on your scores on the entrance exam, which will be determined by the number of open positions at the university. The PG Council will conduct the interview, which will be worth 20 points.

• The option to apply for the CLAT can be found on the website's home page.
• Candidates will be taken to a different page where they can register for the exam after clicking the CLAT Application Form option.
• Students will be required to enter their mobile phone number and name in order to register. They will receive an SMS containing an OTP, after which they can proceed to fill out the form.
• The application form requires applicants to enter all of their personal and academic information after registering.
• In addition, they will be required to upload scanned copies of the required documents, such as their mark sheets, identification, photograph, signature, and so forth.
• After the student has successfully submitted all of the information requested on the application, he or she will be able to choose which NLU campuses to apply to and rank them according to their preference.
