In 2008, the West Bengal State University (WBSU) in Barasat was established. The University is now in a position to stand out from the rest of the world in terms of assessment and is making positive contributions to the fields of teaching, learning, and research, despite the initial issues that persisted for approximately six to seven years. On its founding day, which was February 25, 2017, the university held its inaugural Convocation. Since then, the university organizes it on the same day each year.
Excellency under the Honorable Governor of West Bengal and Honorable Chancellor of the University has presided over every meeting to date. Up until the year 2016, the university has distributed all undergraduate (UG) certificates to affiliated colleges for graduates. Up until the year 2026-27, post-graduate (PG) certificates were given out. As a result, the University administration's persistent efforts have cleared previous backlogs.
In total, the 53 affiliated colleges of the university enrolled 53,000 undergraduate students in 2026-27, approximately 65% of whom were first-generation students. Nineteen colleges currently offer postgraduate courses in a variety of fields (subject-based autonomy). Eight of the 46 colleges are A-grade colleges accredited by the NAAC. There is one B. P. West Bengal State University PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria
A candidate is eligible for admission to a Ph.D. program in any of the faculties (Arts, Commerce & Business Management, Education, Engineering & Technology, Law, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sciences, and Social Sciences) if he or she has earned a postgraduate degree in the subject at a recognized university with at least 55% (or 50% for SC/ST/PH candidates) overall marks.
