1995 marked the beginning of the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS). It offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in dairy sciences, fisheries sciences, and veterinary and animal sciences. Candidates with a two-year Master's degree in Veterinary & Animal Sciences, M.Tech., will be eligible for admission to the university's Ph.D. program in Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Technology, and Dairy Chemistry) and M.F.Sc. and earning a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Dairy Technology, or Fishery Sciences, each with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.00 point scale or 6.75 on a 10 point scale, from a recognized university or national institute.

Candidates will only be chosen based on their performance in the personal interview and their academic score. The academic score of 80 marks will be calculated using the percentage of marks in aggregate, or OGPA, from the Bachelor's and Master's exams (i.e., 30 marks at the Bachelor's level and 50 marks at the Master's level). A total of 100 points will be awarded for the merit list, with 80 percent going to the academic score and 20 percent going to the personal interview.
