The West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) was established on January 1, 2003, as a result of the West Bengal University of Health Sciences act XVIII of 2002. Its mission was to establish an intellectual and academic environment that was conducive to the free flow of ideas and information with all of the country's and international centers of excellence. In addition to numerous programs in the health sciences, the university offers the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) and BDS (Bachelor of Dental Science) degrees.
In order to help raise the level of education in the state, all of WBUHS's medical science courses are combined under one roof.
