Step-by-Step NIOS Admission Process
1. Check Eligibility
For Class 10 (Secondary Course):
Minimum age: 14 years as of July 31, 2025.
Must have passed Class 8 or equivalent
For Class 12 (Senior Secondary Course):
Minimum age: 15 years as on July 31, 2025.
Have passed Class 10 or its equivalent
2. Select the Right Admission Block
Choose whether you need to appear for the exams in April/May (Block 1) or October/November (Block 2). Each block has different admission dates and late fee schedules.
3. Collect Documents Needed
Ensure that you have scanned copies of the following:
Recent passport-size photograph
Signature (preferably in black ink)
Valid proof of identity (Aadhar card, passport, ration card)
Date of birth proof (birth certificate, Class 8/10 mark sheet)
Residence proof electricity bill, voter ID,
Class 8 mark sheet (for applicants of Class 10)
Class 10 mark sheet (for applicants of Class 12)
Caste certificate (if required)
Disability certificate (if required)
4. Register Online
Go to the official NIOS website: https://www.nios.ac.in
Click on Online Admission
Choose "Stream 1" for new students.
Enter personal information and make a login ID.
Verify the mobile number & email ID via OTP.
Upload necessary documents.
Choose subjects and exam center.

5. Pay Admission Fee
Class 10:
General (Boys): 1,800 for 5 subjects.
General (Girls): 1,450 for 5 subjects.
SC/ST/PwD/Ex-Servicemen: 1,200 for 5 subjects.
Other subjects: 720 each.
Class 12:
General (Boys): 2,000 for 5 subjects.
General (Girls): 1,750 for 5 subjects.
SC/ST/PwD/Ex-Servicemen: 1,500 for 5 subjects.
Other subjects: 720 each.
A fee of 50 more is to be paid for the application form.
Payment can be done online through net banking/credit/debit card.
6. Get Confirmation
Once registration and payment are successfully made, you'll be sent an enrollment number by SMS and email.
Download your NIOS ID card from the student portal.
7. Prepare for Exams
Read the NIOS syllabus for the subjects you've selected.
Note down the exam dates and deadlines.
Submit examination forms and fees in time.

Q. What is NIOS?
NIOS is a short form for National Institute of Open Schooling. It is a board of government that assists students in learning at home and appearing for Class 10 or 12 exams without attending a normal school.
Q. What is eligibility to apply for NIOS Class 10?
Anybody above 14 years as of July 31, 2025 and having completed Class 8 can apply for Class 10 (Secondary).
Q. What is eligibility required to apply for NIOS Class 12?
You need to be 15 years or above as of July 31, 2025 and having cleared Class 10 to apply for Class 12 (Senior Secondary).
Q. What are the two blocks for admission?
NIOS has two blocks in a year:
Block 1: For April/May 2025 exams
Block 2: For October/November 2025 exams
Q. When is the last date to apply for Block 1?
Last date without late fee is July 31, 2024.
You can apply till September 15, 2024, but with a late fee.

Q. How much is the fee?
Depending on the class and category:
Class 10 (General): Approximately 1,800 for 5 subjects
Class 12 (General): Approximately 2,000 for 5 subjects

Additional 720 for additional subject
Q. Can I opt for my own subjects?
Yes, you can opt for the subjects of your choice.
But ensure that you choose the minimum required number of subjects (at least 5).
Q. How will I be informed whether my admission has been confirmed?
After successful fee payment and registration, you will get a confirmation email and SMS. You'll also be provided with your enrollment number and can download your ID card from the NIOS student portal.
Q. Is NIOS valid for college and jobs?
Yes! NIOS is a government-approved board under the Government of India. Its certificates are accepted for higher studies, government jobs, and private jobs.
Q. Can I change my subjects later?
Yes, you can shift subjects by making an application online, but only within a limited period from the date of admission. A small charge may be levied.
Q. What if I don't pass an exam?
Don't worry! You can reappear for the subject in the ensuing exam cycle by paying the exam fee.
Q. What is the study medium?
