About Hassan University came into existence with the aim of serving the underprivileged and economically backward section of students of Hassan and nearby districts. The University started out as a Post Graduate Center of University of Mysore in 1992 under the guidance of the then Vice-Chancellor Prof. M. Madayya with an allotment of 78.8 acres of land. The notification was issued by the University of Mysore on July 13th 1992 to start the PG Centre of University of Mysore in Hassan.
