Ph.D. Journalism and Mass
Communication has duration of three to five years. It is doctorate level
programme. In this course we study Freedom of Expression Theory, Theory of
Culture and Media, Law and Ethics of Telecommunication, etc. It is
the highest level of educational degree that one can achieve in Journalism and
Mass Communication. The student who
wants to pursue this course should have Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass
Communication with minimum 55% marks from recognized university. The admission
takes place on the basis of entrance exam which is conducted by Sunrise

The candidate who wants to pursue
this course should have Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication
with minimum 55% marks from recognized university. Those who have recently
appeared in final exams can apply provisionally for this programme. The
candidate who wants to pursue this course has to go through entrance exam which
is conducted by Sunrise University. The candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR
(JRF)/NET/SLET/NET JRF get relaxation from entrance exam.
It is mode of course in which
students attend class’s regularly in campus and attend all necessary activities
of course. It is compulsory for all students to attend classes regularly in
this mode. It has duration of 3 to 6 years.
In this mode of course the
student does not need to attend classes regularly they can work with this
course. It has duration of 3.5 to 7 years.
The students who want to pursue
this course in part time mode should have No Objection Certificate (NOC). In No
Objection Certificate (NOC) should have mentioned that he/she permitted to
pursue studies on a part time basis.

The entrance exam for admission
in Ph.D. Journalism and Mass Communication is Sunrise University by itself. The
GATE, CEED, NET JRF & GATE entrance exams are also accepted. The students
who have cleared these exams can get relaxation from entrance exams. The
student has to qualify entrance test for the admission in the Ph.D. Journalism
and Mass Communication course.
In Sunrise University enough time
provided to research scholar for the selection of his/her Supervisor. The
supervisor is allocated by a committee and the supervisor is released in the
term end. The steps of allocation of supervisor are given below.
Step 1 Supervisor Profiling
The availability of doctorate
faculty who have vacant seat can be seen online. The detailed profile of
faculty can be seen online by scholar.
Step 2 Booking of Slot for Supervisor
The research scholar can book
slot with any of his/her preferred doctorate faculty by just clicking on the
Book a slot “button.
Step 3 Sending message to selected doctorate faculty
When research scholar selects his
choice doctorate faculty this message received by his/her doctorate faculty.
Step 4 Preparation of list of allocated supervisors and submission of
consent form
A list of all research scholars
and their allocated supervisor is prepared on the basis of eligibility criteria
and availability of seats. A hard copy of the consent form is submitted by
research scholar. When the research scholar get consent form from doctorate
faculty. The final list of research scholar and their allocated supervisor is
forwarded to Head of Faculty for recommendations.
Step 5 Allotments of Supervisors
After getting approval from
authorities the list of allocated supervisor is provided to research scholars
before the end of coursework.
