Located at the eastern fringe of North 24 Parganas (Chandpara, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal), Harichand Guruchand University started its journey as per The Harichand Guruchand University Act, 2018 ([West Bengal Act XXVII of 2018], Part- III, Acts of the West Bengal Legislature, Law Department Legislative Notification published in The Kolkata Gazette (Extraordinary), PAUSA 12, SAKA 1940, January 2, 2019). To fulfil the long pending demands of the people of Nadia and North 24 Parganas, particularly of Thakurnagar, the Government of West Bengal founded this state-aided university in the honour of Shri Shri Harichand Thakur (1812-1878) and Shri Shri Guruchand Thakur (1846-1937), the founder and propagator of the Matua socio-religious culture and philosophy. The Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal has been kind enough to justify the academic aspirations of the students, scholars and parents of this region.
